Time, called Kala in Sanskrit, is a name for Shiva, the original deity and guru of Yoga. Shiva is Mahakala, the great deity of time, ruling over all time cycles. Shiva is the Lord of Eternity, boundless time beyond all change.
As reincarnating beings, we are rooted in Eternity at the core of our Consciousness. Our inner awareness does not die, only our outer body and mind, of which we have many in our different incarnations on Earth and other realms of existence.
To understand the yogic meaning of time is simple:
Through Yoga and Meditation you can learn to return to your true Self (Atman), which exists beyond birth and death, body and mind.
The mind is caught in time in ever changing thoughts. Our inner consciousness that witnesses the thought is by nature beyond time. Mind and body have their beginning and end that we must adjust to, but Pure Consciousness is inherently beyond these.
As you look to another year, remember your inner timeless Consciousness, which is the origin and goal of your true nature.
Whatever actions in time we create should center in timeless awareness, the Shiva and Shakti principles.
The Yoga Shakti is also Kala Shakti, the power of time in a spiritual and cosmic sense. To reach eternity or Shiva we must awaken the Yoga Shakti, which is the energy of prana, attention and absorption into unity
The Yoga of Time requires moment by moment awareness.
